How to take care of your mind and mentality during a pandemic?

The current pandemic is a time of crisis in terms of health because many changes have occurred, especially in the health sector, both physical and mental health. Mental illness or what is often called a mental disorder is a condition where a person feels symptoms that attack physically and psychologically and are related to emotions. Mental illness is for example excessive fear and panic, anxiety disorders, xenophobia (fear of people from other countries who are considered to be endangering safety) to depression.

This can be caused by various things, such as anxiety about being infected with COVID-19 or worrying about not being able to do work to earn money as usual, feeling stressed and lonely because of undergoing self-quarantine to reduce positive patients and do social distancing, as well as anxiety and fear. with the news of the increase and death of patients with COVID-19.

An example of a case of anxiety caused by this pandemic is that at the beginning of the pandemic, panic buying occurred due to food ingredients and tools such as masks and hand sanitizers that were difficult to find. Another example is people who feel anxious about coming to the doctor for fear of contracting and fear of being sentenced to contract Covid-19. This will cause people to think negatively so that it can also affect physical health.

Society must be able to adapt to what is happening now. Adaptation is necessary so that we can survive in the changing environment. For example, the community must be able to adapt to health programs that have been implemented by the government, such as using masks when traveling, always washing hands, and using hand sanitizer.

The thing that can be done to prevent mental illness is to read official news sites from the government so as not to be consumed by hoax news about COVID-19. Doing hobbies that you can do such as reading books, exercising, watching Netflix, painting, and others so that you can distract from the situation you are currently experiencing. Socialize with friends and family using platforms like zoom or google meet, so you don't feel lonely. Eat a healthy and balanced nutritious food, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. Trying to meditate to reduce anxiety disorders because by doing meditation we will be calmer and think positively, meditation is also known to improve brain performance which plays a role in the process of learning, remembering, and concentrating.
