The BEM (Student Executive Board) Alliance throughout Solo Raya held an action with the title “Solo Raya Menggugat”. This action was held on April 14, 2022, and started around 14.00 WIB. More than 700 students from Klaten, Boyolali, Karanganyar, Sukoharjo, Sragen, etc. participated in this action safely and orderly.

This action began with a long march from the gathering point, namely Ngarsopuro to the action point, namely the Gladag Roundabout, Slamet Riyadi Street, Solo. Then the action was continued with speeches, poetry readings, singing, and the delivery of demands from various representatives of BEM in each university.

Ahmad Fathul Rohman, a public relations officer from UIN Surakarta explained that his fellow students had actually planned several strategic places of action, namely the Surakarta Monument, the Surakarta DPRD Office, and the City Hall, but several technical changes were finally carried out at the Gladag Roundabout.

"I think this is our common concern, especially students and the wider community, we as students are trying to bridge the concerns of the community, there are some urgent matters that we are raising voices for, so yes indeed Indonesia is not doing well and the problem is very complex,” said Ahmad when asked by the Campus team about the background of this action.

In this action, the BEM alliance in Solo Raya conveyed three demands, including: 1) stabilizing the price of cooking oil and other basic commodities; 2) demanding that the government review the increase in fuel prices and ensure the availability of fuel for the wider community; 3) demand that the government review the IKN law and postpone the IKN project.

He also explained that the omission of several BEM in Solo Raya was partly due to the unequal perspective.

“Having different perspectives in a study is normal, some BEM who resigned from the alliance are because the BEM in Solo Raya did not invite all elements of society. But if we look in the mirror at some of the previous actions, we have to be careful—we are more selective because student actions are often ridden by irresponsible elements, added Ahmad.”

The hope for holding this action and other actions in various districts is that the government is willing to listen and follow up on what people are complaining about.

But unfortunately, this action was not known by the public at large.

Wiji, a 67-year-old pedicab driver when interviewed by our team, revealed that he did not know that this action would take place. However, he believed that the high cost of cooking oil is a game of certain individuals.

"There is a lot of palm oil in Indonesia, if it's rare and expensive, it's not normal. Indonesia has the complete commodities, from spices, mining is also the richest, but how come it's expensive, it's all funny," said Wiji.
