BEM FKG (The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Dentistry) again held an annual event to commemorate World Oral Health Day (20/03/22). The activity took the theme Be Proud of Your Mouth which is the theme of WHO (World Health Organization) and Confident by Your Mouth Share Your Smile which is a sub theme of BEM FKG UMS.

Lulu Amelia Fortuna, as chairman of the committee, explained that the purpose of the theme was to invite friends and the public to be more aware of teeth and mouth health. “If they already know how to take care of their teeth and mouth, for example by brushing their teeth regularly twice a day, in the morning after eating and at night before going to bed, it is hoped that they can create a comfortable mouth and teeth and also be able to share smiles with others," said Lulu.

In collaboration with PSMKG (Association of Dentistry Student Senate) UMS, BEM FKG UMS held several series of events in commemoration of this event. The first was a photo contest intended for the general public which was held on March 20, 2022. This activity aimed to facilitate friends to compete with creative ideas through social media, so that they knew about World Oral Health Day.

Then the second activity was the sharing of toothpaste, toothbrushes, brochures, and stickers which was also held on March 20, 2022. The activity was spread over three locations, namely Manahan, PGS or around Galabo, and around Pasar Gede. The consideration for choosing these three places was because those areas were icons of the Solo City and over there were found many people from all walks of life. The target for sharing brochures and stickers was around 200, while toothpaste and toothbrushes were targeted at only 90.

Lulu explained that this activity did not only share toothpaste and toothbrushes but also brochures and stickers as well as a little education about dental and oral care. "The target of this program is more to the community, such as pedicab drivers, garbage collectors, or maybe parking attendants who may lack awareness of their dental health, added her."

For the last is Instagram live streaming which will be held on March, 23 2022 through the personal Instagram account of BEM FKG UMS. This activity aims to make friends know about dental and oral health and will present a competent speaker named dr. Nina.

Ahmad (60) who is janitor of DLH Surakarta said that this activity could add his knowledge and experience to deal with bad breath which wash is family complaint; it was by drinking more water and brushing his teeth more cleanly.

Lulu also hoped that through this activity, BEM FKG and PSKG UMS could be better known and trusted by the wider community. In addition, these online and offline activities could educate and spread benefits to the general public, especially to people who still have low knowledge of dental and oral health.
