Dear Nathan: Thank You Salma movie seems to be the talk of many young people now. With a romance drama genre, the movie has a duration of 112 minutes. The film, which was first released on January 13, 2022, in cinema was directed by Kunzt Agus and produced by Gope T Samtani, and distributed through Rapi Films and Screenplay Films. This film is based on a novel entitled Thank You Salma written by Erisca Febriani and it is a continuation of a film entitled Dear Nathan: Hello Salma which released in 2018.
This film tells the romantic situation between Nathan (played by Jefri Nichol) and Salma (played by Amanda Rawles) during their college. Unfortunately, when they enter the world of social activists, Salma and Nathan have different principles that made them often quarrel. Problems getting worse when Salma closes to Afkar (played by Ardhito Pramono)—a musician and her senior in campus poem organization. In the other situation, Nathan is busy to help Zanna (played by Indah Permatasari)—his classmate that experienced sexual harassment on their campus.
Dear Nathan: Thank You Salma mainly takes notes in action to fight against sexual harassment besides the romantic time of couple. The story is started with a meeting between Salma and Nathan when they turn into a college student, much different than the latest Dear Nathan movie that they were still a high school student. Now they have to learn to be mature in love relationships and this movie is the end of Dear Nathan Trilogy. Both entering the world of activism, Salma chooses to express it digitally when Nathan chooses to do it on the street (demonstration).
The big problem when Salma and Nathan have relationship estrangement because Salma meets Afkar is actually a good point. Because, later they help each other to support Zanna as the victim of sexual harassment by the Student Executive Organization leader, Rio (played by Sani Fahreza) that is actually colluded with the campus dean where Rio's father is their Study Program Chief.
This movie gives a unique impression by expressing the world of romanticism and something that actually happened in real life and also problems that still occurs in society. Their cast bring the audience to feel romance story at the university level and what action to do on facing sexual harassment in real life. This is very good to be used as education this time when sexual harassment has happened everywhere education for how to behave when we are a victim of sexual harassment and how to respond and help people who are victims of sexual harassment.
Another good thing about this movie is the action of the cast in expressing the characters and making the visual version of what is written in the novel.
In the cinematic view, this movie has lack on the style of cinematography on almost each scene lighting points, captured angles, and distance of the recorded area. This movie also has lack on some transitions that does not seem safe for the eyes when watching in cinema or theater because some scenes suddenly move from dark into too bright. For example, Salma's bedroom at the night suddenly moves into the next day at the campus building. Another bad thing in the cinematic side of this movie is some scenes look like they are recording a phone screen rather than using chat software. It is too wide for an optimal viewing point at the cinema and can tire the audience's eyes when trying to read the text that is important to understand the completeness of the story. The Voice of characters and other audio in this movie is not that impressive but it is still good for hearing.
Overall, this movie is still worth to watch in the cinema but I suggest you watch this movie later on digital media or legal apps. For the rating, I rate it 8.5 out of 10, 8.5 for the story explanation and way to deliver the situation, and less 1.5 for some lack of cinematography.
