'Kukira Kau Rumah' and Awareness of Mental Health

'Kukira kau rumah' is a film with the theme of mental health, a little love story, and family. This film airs on February 3, 2022. This film tells the story of a girl named Niskala (Prilly Latuconsina) who suffers from bipolar disorder. Bipolar is a mental disorder that attacks a person's psychological condition which is characterized by extreme mood swings in the form of mania and depression, because of that the medical term was previously called maniac depressive. The mood of the sufferer can switch suddenly between two opposite poles (bipolar) namely happiness (mania) and excessive sadness (depression) without a definite pattern or time. Niskala's father is also very protective. Because her father's upbringing is very strict and tends to restrain her so Niskala is secretly studying without her father's knowledge. Niskala had two friends since childhood, namely Dinda (Shenina Cinnamon) and Oktavianus (Raim Laode), who are the support system that always supports and protects Niskala. Meanwhile, Pram (Jourdy Pranata), a Niskala’s senior on campus, is a lonely man who doesn't have a father and only has a mother who is busy working. He finally poured his life into music and composing songs. Niskala and Pram who feel lonely are finally close, and finally find the meaning of 'home' itself when they are together.

This film is quite successful in conveying emotions to the audience. The players played the role very well. Prilly who plays Niskala can play the role of a girl who suffers from bipolar disorder who makes the audience able to shed tears. The other players are also able to play the role very nicely.

This film can also make us increase mental health awareness both for ourselves to others and awareness from others to those around them and make people not underestimate it. This film explains how important the support from people around us for those who are experiencing mental health and teaches us to be sensitive to the social environment around us. With this film we can understand people who suffer from bipolar disorder. This film can also be an example for parents to consider how to properly educate their children.

The downside of this film, in my opinion, is the ending. Which raises a big question mark as well as what and why words, thus making the film seem to hang, especially in the role of Pram who has to do things that in my opinion will aggravate Niskala's bipolar disorder. This film also does not show the background of why Niskala's father restrained Niskala and also the background of Pram and his family. And also unfortunately in this film, it is not explained how the solution for the bipolar sufferer is to live. But overall big applause for this film which tries to convey a message to the audience to raise awareness about bipolar. Films of this genre are hard to find in Indonesia, which rarely raises issues about mental health.
